Despite previously saying that he wouldn't be present when Barry Bonds breaks his career home run record of 755 home runs, Hank Aaron has changed his mind, and in a big way.
Just yesterday, the 72-year old Aaron purchased an Airbus 319 jet that he will use to follow the infamous slugger around as he attempts to break his record.
Aaron said it took a phone call from one of baseball's great ambassadors to get him to realize the error of his ways. "I got a call from Alex Rodriguez, or A-Rod as the kids call him, and he made me realize I was an idiot for not going to watch Bonds try and break my record," Aaron said. "As many of you may know, he and Barry are now the best of friends for some reason, and I thought that was just swell," said Aaron. "I wanted in on the little club they got started and now the three of us are planning to hang out on their next off-days; maybe go bowling or something. It should be fun." Aaron had previously stated that he was too old to follow Bonds around the country on a jet just to be there to see his record broken. Aaron was talked into the idea to follow Bonds by A-Rod, who plans to chip in a "a few dozen million bones here and there" to help pay for the jet. "I want to thank A-Rod for helping to pick up the cost of my new baby," said Aaron, referring to the jet. "I'm looking to get my pilot's license by this October, just in case either of my two new buddies actually make the playoffs. That way I can just pick up and go watch them whenever I want, you know?" Aaron said he hadn't spoken to Bonds yet about his change of heart, but said he had plans to make a surprise visit to Bonds' mansion bearing gifts of rice krispie treats and "fancy scented lotions." "I really want to apologize to Barry," Aaron said. "I realized the other day that me and him have both had our share of critics and hatred to deal with as we came close to breaking hallowed records, and I think we have a lot in common. Except for the fact that he cheated and totally deserved most of it, while I didn't." "Off the record of course. You're not going to print that, right?"
When asked if Aaron had any room for MLB commissioner Bud Selig on his jet, he turned a little bit defensive.
