HUSKERS ADD 3 MORE TO 2008 Recruiting Class!
GBR folks. Our great 2008 class just got a little more depth as Defensive end recruit Josh Williams and receiver prospect D.J. Woods gave their oral commitments to Nebraska on Saturday, July 28, 2007, a day after linebacker Will Compton pledged his services to the Huskers.

Williams, at 6 foot 4, 220 pounds, becomes the second player out of the state of Texas to pledge to NU's 2008 recruiting class. He registered 68 tackles, including 22 for losses, and added six sacks as a junior for Denton Ryan High School, which is a perennial contenter. While Woods is 6 foot tall and weighs in a 169 pounds. Woods caught 35 passes for 750 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior at Strongsville. He also returned a pair of kickoffs and two punts for scores.

both players are consider 3 star prospects by Rival.com and are the Huskers 17th and 18th commitments for their 2008 class.

UPDATE

If you are a Hardcore follower of Nebraska Football, you are just as interested in the Huskers recruiting as you are the current roster. But just what exactly are you suppose to do, if the upcoming class (2008) is already complete? The easy answer is the upcoming high school juniors of course for the 2009 class.

As of July 1, 2007 the Huskers have already received commitments from 14 high school students. As a comparison, this year’s incoming class (2007) did not receive their 14 commitment until October 13th, and the 2006 class didn’t get their 14th until December 5, 2005. Many of you may be impressed by this early pace, but don’t be fooled into a false sense of satisfaction. As a comparison, The Texas University of Austin (AKA University of Texas) already has 20 commitments for their 2008 class, and TAMU (Texas A & M) has 19 commitments. Heck even recently placed on probation Oklahoma has 15.

If the Huskers can complete their 2008 class by say this September or October, they can start bringing in High School Juniors to games during the upcoming season for their official visits for the 2009 class. Don’t just think that the recruiting class is about having a high number; some of the commitments for the 2008 class include such notables as Baker Steinkuhler, rated as the 4th best offensive linemen, and who is the son of the only two time Outland Trophy winner Dean Steinkuhler. Baker is the younger brother of Ty Steinkuhler, who is a defensive star on the current Blackshirt unit. Trevor Robinson is rated by Rivals as the nation’s number 3 offensive linemen and is out of Elkhorn Nebraska.

According to Rivals.com Nebraska’s current high school recruiting class is rated No. 10 nationally, behind Texas (2), Oklahoma (4) and Texas A&M (9) in the Big 12. In discussing the strength of Nebraska’s class thus far, Tom Lemming a veteran and respected recruiting analyst pointed to quarterback Blaine Gabbert rated by Scout.com as the nation’s No. 4 quarterback and No. 2 by Rivals.com., committed to the Huskers in May.

According to Allen Wallace, who is the national recruiting editor of Scout.com of the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Gabbert: “He’s everything the program could be looking for in a quarterback.” And in my opinion a perfect fit in the mold of Zack Taylor for Bill Callahan’s West-Coast offense. So far the Huskers have signed 4 in-state “corn-fed” offensive linemen, which bring back sweet memories of the old “pipe-line” glory days, on which the greatest college football’s running offensive was built.
