{mosimage}July 29 UPDATE: Sam McGuffie chose Michigan over Texas A&M, USC, Notre Dame, and Florida on Sunday, July 29th. He is rivals.com's #1 all-purpose RB. The incredibly talented senior from Cypress, Texas is a potential once-in-a-generation type of running back and a youtube phenomenon. Did I mention he's white? I might as well, because you know someone else eventually will. That's just how it goes. It's hard to shy away from the fact that Sam McGuffie is white, but as an ultra-quick running back with moves the likes of which may never have been seen on a football field, it's simply part of his legend right now. {youtube}x4IJ17ODo_s{/youtube} After all, there hasn't been a white running back with anywhere near this kind of talent in a long, long time. Of course, if McGuffie lives up to immense potential, he could become the type of talent that hasn't been seen in a very long time from a player of any race. McGuffie knows the scrutiny that comes with his skin color is inevitable, but for now, he's simply focused on playing football, leading his team to a state title, and bulking up and getting ready for the next level of college football. Sam is one of the fastest players in the country with a reported 40 time in the 4.2 range, depending on who and what you believe, and he put up incredible stats at Cy-Fair High School in a very competitive high school division of Texas football, 3,200 yards and 44 touchdowns to be exact. Some scouts knock him because he's only 192 pounds, but it seems as if they are nit-picking, because Sam shows great strength both on the field and in the weight room.{mosimage} He should be able to easily add 10-15 pounds of muscle at the next level while still keeping his speed and amazing moves (check out the video), and if that happens, the NCAA football world had better look out. McGuffie is ranked as a top 5 running back and top 100 prospect by most recruiting services. Related Articles:

| Here's hoping this one doesn't bite the Buckeyes in the butt. Based upon what I have read, it appears to me that McGuffie did not receive an offer from the Bucks because of a one running back promise made to Devoe Torrence. I don't know about McGuffie adding a bunch of weight. The pictures I've seen show him with muscle upon muscle at this time. | |

| Yea, I have been around the Houston area for 30 plus years and IMHO MCGuffie is the best "white" running back from this area since Craig James back in 1978. Which was also the same year that a back from just outside the Houston area made his mark, and they both wound up going to the same college, SMU. That back? A guy by the name of Eric Dickerson.... | |

McGuffie's injury plagued senior season may have slowed the media hype, but not the high expectations. He's the best white tailbacl prospect since Scott Lockwood came out of the Colorado prep ranks and started as a freshman in the Rose Bowl for USC. Physique wise, he's ripped up and does not to put on a few pounds. Sam could be the next Barry Sanders. |
