According to message board rumors, the New Orlean Saints would like to sign DE Will Smith to a long term deal this off-season. This is interesting because they just signed DE Charles Grant to a $60 millon contract a couple months ago.

No deal has been reached and Smith still has two years left from his 5-year contract he signed his rookie year.

The New Orlean Saints are quickly demonstrating how to take advantage of a good thing.

Last year, the Miami Dolphins decide to go with Daunte Culpepper instead of Drew Brees, giving the Saints a Pro Bowl quarterback.

Then, the Texans select a DE before Reggie Bush, giving the Saints Reggie Bush.

A year later, the Saints sign Grant.

Now, I guess they want more insurance. Or maybe just reward a guy for a job well done. A Year ago Will Smith had 52 tackles (33 solo), 3 FF, and 10.5 sacks. He is still just 25 years old.

The Smith/Grant combo could give the Saints the best defensive end tandem in the NFL for a stretch of a few years. It could be that special and it's probably going to happen.

The offense/defense combo for the Saints makes them the easy favorite in the NFC South. They easily have the best offensive unit and the defense may be the best as well.
