Sometimes your told a story that seems to pure to taint. Just leave it alone. Nothing is sacred these days. Then you decide, "the hell with it, it was just a poker game." Just make it quick.
A friend of mine was invited by a co-worker to a poker game. A $20 entry, tournament style, 8 player game and oh yeah, Tim Duncan is stopping over. Apparently the friend of the friend once played in Europe and knows Duncan from back in the day. Long story short, 8 players began and only one was left standing; Tim Duncan. The soon-to-be 4 time champion. The multi-millionaire legend. The master of boredom quietly made $140 that night. The next night against the Orlando Magic he was paid considerably more. The odd thing is, not one person that night mentioned the NBA, San Antonio Spurs, or even Tony Parker and Eva Longoria. I figured that someone would have told Duncan, after he wiped them out, that his game of basketball is tedious to watch and everyone outside of San Antonio hates it. But no, Duncan was treated like just another 7 foot dude. This makes me wonder, what other star athlete would site through an entire poker game with fans of the NBA and not have anybody talking about it? Shaq? Kobe? LeBron? Wayde? Jordan? Bill Walton? Yeah, definitely not Bill Walton. Losing to Bill Walton would suck. Point is, Duncan represents the quiet majority that never gets the headlines they deserve (comparatively). He's efficient, skilled, tall, strong, smart and one of the best ever. Wake me up when it's over. I'm going to continue to root hard against the Spurs. Go Mavs, go Suns go whoever lame duck Eastern team is facing the Spurs in the 2008's version of the championship game. It's always going to be easy to root against Duncan, but it would be stupid to ever bet against him.
