The Scoop:

DeShaun Thomas shocked everyone with his early committment to Ohio State Head coach Thad Matta. Here is a video where he discusses his early verbal.

If he recommits....

Jared Sullinger, rated #3 overall by Scout.com, is also a part of the Thad Matta's 2010 recruiting class. This duo will bring size, strength and athleticism to the Ohio State frontline.

Prediction:

Thomas still has 3 years left to play basketball and his recruitment has a long ways to go. Going by his words and not others, he seems like he heavily favors OSU. Indiana and perhaps Kentucky could steal him away. Especially Indiana, where it seems hometown pressures helped him open up his recruitment once again. Righ now, Ohio State leads.

We will keep this page updated when we find out more.

We also caught two of the better 2010 prospects Brandon Knight and Deshaun Thomas in action.

At 6-foot-4 and athletic, Knight also has a great mind for the game. With a penchant for making the quick, accurate pass, Knight plays an efficiently dynamic game. He also defends well and is a threat to knock down the outside shot. It is definitely hard to imagine a better 2010 point guard prospect in the country.

Thomas didn't play his A game for the Spiece Indy Heat 16-under team in a disappointing 18 point loss to the Houston Hoopstars Elite in the Reebok Summer Championships. He led his team in scoring with 14 points but only went 6-15 from the field and missed all six of his three-point attempts. He also had six rebounds, but turned the ball over six times to only one assist. Certainly a talent, Thomas just didn't look that inspired in this ball game.

Thad Matta watched the game and as to whether or not Thomas is solidly committed to the Buckeyes, Spiece Indy Heat coach Bryant Hobbs had this comment.

"Deshaun's commitment to Ohio State is solid," said Coach Hobbs. "He really enjoyed his visit there and is comfortable with the coaching staff."

By BOB HUNTER - Columbus Dispatch

At least twice during the July evaluation period, 2009 prospect Renardo Sidney, a 6-foot-9 forward from Lakewood, Calif., by way of Mississippi, was quoted as saying the Buckeyes were at the top of his list of suitors.

"I have a lot of schools recruiting me, but I really like Ohio State. That's who I'm leaning toward," Sidney told The Evening Bulletin of Philadelphia during the Reebok camp.

Two weeks later, in Las Vegas, Sidney told Rivals.com, "I love Ohio State and the way they play. I enjoyed watching Greg Oden and Mike Conley, and I think coach (Thad) Matta does a great job coaching."

Meanwhile, 2010 top gun DeShaun Thomas of Fort Wayne, Ind., seemingly has backed off his spring commitment to the Buckeyes only publicly, to quell the uproar it created in his home state.

"DeShaun's commitment to Ohio State is solid," Bryant Hobbs, coach of the Spiece Indy Heat summer team for which Thomas plays, told Rivals.com in Las Vegas. "He really enjoyed his visit there (in May) and is comfortable with the coaching staff."
